More About Our History and Our Team

Our law firm was founded in 1990. We quickly established a reputation for zealous, effective advocacy representing people in high profile employment law, civil rights law and personal injury law cases.

In 1992, we added Michael D. Seplow, a lawyer previously with Blanc, Williams, Johnston & Kronstadt. In 1995, Wilmer J. Harris, an attorney previously with the Law Offices of Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr., joined the firm. Mr. Harris is the former State Bar of California’s chair of the labor and employment executive committee.

In 1999, prominent Los Angeles attorney Paul L. Hoffman became a partner. Prior to joining, Mr. Hoffman served as legal director for the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, where he was lead counsel on numerous landmark cases, including:

  • United States v. Alvarez-Machain
  • Coalition Against Police Abuse v. Board of Police Commissioners (the police-spying cases)
  • Doe v. Unocal (a case against Unocal for forced labor)

He has helped our law firm earn a positive reputation for our national civil rights and international human rights work, one of our firm’s many accomplishments. In 2010, Mr. Hoffman was nominated for Trial Lawyer of the Year by The American Association for Justice.

In 2016, Catherine Sweetser and Aidan McGlaze became partners at the firm. Both had worked at the firm for a number of years and achieved litigation victories and policy changes in the City and County of Los Angeles prior to becoming partners.

In 2020, respected class action attorney, Helen Zeldes, joined the firm and brought with her novel consumer protection cases around the issues of privacy in the technology age, human rights/ “woke washing” in advertising, and traditional consumer and wage/hour class action cases.

We are a growing team of attorneys supported by an experienced staff of legal professionals.

Our attorneys have been recognized in many ways, including being listed by peers and Super Lawyers magazine for professional achievements and commitment to professional excellence. We are particularly proud of our work for justice in the Los Angeles region, and we continue to fight for change and for government and corporate accountability in California and nationwide.
