Biography:

Emily Barbour represents individuals in all stages of civil rights and employment litigation, in both state and federal court, and in arbitration and mediations. Before joining the firm in 2023, Emily worked for another highly regarded civil rights firm on police misconduct and employment discrimination matters. Emily has experience representing protestors and other individuals in police excessive force cases, employees who have been wrongfully terminated, harassed, or retaliated against in the workplace, and students who have been bullied or abused in schools. Emily is a creative and strategic litigator who leverages her exceptional attention to detail and her strong relationships with each client to achieve positive outcomes in her cases.

Emily graduated magna cum laude and in the top 5% of her class from Boston College Law School. Emily joined the Virginia State Bar in 2009 and the California State Bar in 2021. Emily previously clerked for the Honorable Karen L. Stevenson, the Honorable Margaret A. Nagle (ret.), and the Honorable Suzanne Segal (ret.) with the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Emily also worked for three years as a Legislative Attorney for the Congressional Research Service in Washington DC, where she advised Members of Congress and their staff on a wide range of legal issues, including aspects of international trade law, administrative and constitutional law, and civil and criminal procedure. Before attending law school, Emily worked as a special education teacher in the East Baton Rouge Parish School District in Louisiana.
